Also called a crawler, it is a type of computer program that “crawls” all data and information on a website, checks it against criteria, and evaluates it if necessary. By means of robots.txt, NoIndex or NoFollow we can control the crawl behavior.

The best-known bot is Googlebot. In addition, crawlers from Bing, analytics services, and increasingly from AI providers are active, reading content to generate answers in chat systems.

Not every bot is welcome. Some copy content or fill forms with spam. Part of them can be blocked via robots.txt, while protection measures on the server help against the rest.
