Backend

A CMS (content management system) usually has a Frontend– and a backend area. The backend contains the administration of the website. In WordPress the dashboard, the Plugins and Themes as well as pages and posts are also managed here.

The backend is usually reached via the website address with the login suffix. After logging in, you see the dashboard and, on the left, the menu with all areas.

Not all users see the same thing. WordPress has roles with different permissions, from subscriber to author and editor to administrator. Anyone who only maintains content does not need admin rights. This reduces the risk of settings being changed or extensions being removed by mistake.
