WordPress
Plugin
A plugin can be used to extend a WordPress-based site with additional functionality. There are countless plugins for WordPress. In the official Directory on WordPress.org there are currently over 55’000 plugins (as of June 2019).
These plugins are developed and kept up to date by various companies and volunteers. Regular maintenance of these extensions is therefore essential for a secure and stable WordPress site (see our service pack). The plugins are installed via the Backend and can also be activated or deleted there.
When choosing a plugin, what counts is not the feature list but how well it is maintained. Useful criteria are: when was the last update, how many active installations are there, and does the developer respond in the support forum.
Less is more. Every plugin brings its own code that has to be loaded, updated and, if something goes wrong, checked. Two extensions that do the same thing are a risk and cost loading time.
