Page Builder

A page builder is an extension for WordPress, which allows layouts to be built visually without writing code. Elements are placed using the mouse, and spacings, columns, and behavior on different screen sizes can be configured directly.

Well-known examples are Breakdance, Elementor, Divi and Bricks. They differ mainly in how much code they generate in the Frontend output. A lean builder has a noticeable effect on loading time, while an overloaded one slows the website down.

Compared with Gutenberg a page builder offers more control over design and responsive behavior, but in return ties the website more closely to one product. We rely on Breakdance because it generates little code and combines cleanly with a design system.
