.htaccess

The .htaccess file is a configuration file for Apache web servers. It is located in the website's directory and applies to that directory and all of its subfolders. In WordPress it controls, among other things, how the right content is loaded for a Permalink request.

Typical applications include a 301 redirect from old to new addresses, forcing HTTPS, password protection for test environments, or blocking individual files. Rules for browser caching can also be defined here.

Caution is advised: A typo takes down the entire website because the server reads the file with every request. A copy must be created before every change. On servers running nginx, there is no .htaccess; the same rules are set in the server configuration there.

We take care of updates, security and operations with the service pack.
