Widget

Widgets are elements that can be placed in various locations on the website. Such widgets preferably appear in the Sidebar. The standard widgets include, for example, “recent comments”, a search function, links to RSS and login, a tag cloud and so on. Extensions also make it possible to include page-specific widgets. This can ensure, for example, that users only see the newsletter sign-up on posts in the blog category “Online Marketing”.

Since WordPress 5.8, widgets have also been managed as blocks, as in the Gutenberg editor. This means the same building blocks can be used as in the content.

In addition to the sidebar, there are usually several widget areas, often in the footer. Anyone who uses many Page Builder-built elements can in practice manage almost without widgets, because the same content can be placed directly in the layout.
